A Newport Beach man was found dead Tuesday in the waters off Balboa Island, Orange County county coroner officials said.

The body of Robert LeGallee, 73, was found near North Bay Front and Collins Avenue, according to a coroner's release, the Daily Pilot reported.

Newport firefighters and lifeguards responded to that location Tuesday afternoon after receiving a call about a possible drowning, said Jennifer Schulz, fire department spokeswoman.

A swimmer reported seeing a man in the water between a boat and a dock. The swimmer and another person pulled the man, later identified by the coroner as LeGallee, onto a dock. Authorities determined that he was deceased about 4:30 p.m., Schulz said.

An autopsy was scheduled for later this week.
