Long Beach shooting victim identified

A 24-year-old man killed in a Long Beach shooting, in which another man also was injured, was identified Monday by authorities.

Manny Amaya was fatally shot in the upper body by an assailant who approached him on foot near Butler Avenue about 7:25 p.m., police said. There was an exchange of words, and Amaya was shot and a 30-year-old man was wounded in the lower body.

Amaya died from his injuries Saturday evening at a Long Beach hospital. The condition of the other victim was unknown. Investigators say they don't believe the victims are gang members but suspect the assailant may be associated with a gang.

Anyone with information is asked to call Long Beach homicide Dets. Mark McGuire and Greg Krabbe at (562) 570-7244.
