Video shows killer whale attacking trainer at Sea World San Diego

Just-released video of a 2006 incident at SeaWorld San Diego shows a killer whale dragging its trainer underwater.

The trainer, Ken Peters, finally gets free at the edge of the Shamu Stadium pool and scrambles to safety. Peters suffered a broken foot and remains as a trainer at SeaWorld.

While the incident and followup investigation were heavily covered in the media, the underwater video was not shown publicly until released recently by author David Kirby as promotion for his book "Death At Sea World: Shamu and the Dark Side of Killer Whales."

The death in the book's title occurred at SeaWorld in Orlando, Fla., in 2010 when a trainer was killed.

Kirby received the video through the Freedom of Information Act. The 2006 video was part of an administrative hearing into the death.

In response to the release of the video, SeaWorld San Diego issued a statement that the video shows "the trainer's remarkable composure and the skillful execution of an emergency response plan, both of which helped result in a successful outcome with minor injuries."
