Suspected hit-and-run driver arrested after multicar accident

A suspected hit-and-run driver has been arrested for allegedly causing a multi-vehicle accident in Sylmar on Friday night that left two people with serious injuries, police said.

The accident occurred about 11:45 p.m. when the suspect’s Dodge Ram pickup traveling on Polk Street broadsided a Toyota Corolla just east of Dronfield Avenue, spinning the Toyota around and ejecting a 19-year-old passenger onto the roadway.

The pickup truck rolled over onto its roof and collided with several parked vehicles.

After being helped out of the wreckage, the truck's driver, identified as Gabriel Ochoa, 23, of Sylmar, fled the scene without rendering aid or exchanging information, police said.

The driver of the Corolla, Roman John Jimenez Jr., and his passenger, Anahi Donis, both of Sylmar, were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries, authorities said.

Ochoa was booked at the Van Nuys jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run with his bail set at $50,000.00.
