O.C. bomb squad detonates grenades found in backpack under bridge

Orange County bomb squad officials detonated grenades that were in a backpack found under a bridge in Anaheim on Monday.

According to Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, the backpack was spotted under a bridge off Lakeview Avenue near Orangethorpe Avenue.

Upon checking its contents, investigators said they found that it contained grenades, black powder and blasting caps.

Lakeview Avenue between Orangethorpe Avenue and Eisenhower Circle has been closed, and bomb squad members remain on scene as they work to defuse the other items.
