71-year-old O.C. man charged in sex assaults of 10-year-old girls
A 71-year-old Fountain Valley man was charged with raping a 10-year-old girl and committing lewd acts against another 10-year-old girl, police said Wednesday.
Shipley is charged with taking the girl into his bedroom and raping her sometime in 2008, the Police Department said in a statement. The victim was visiting a girl at the home who is a relative of Shipley.
Police said he allegedly committed the lewd acts against the other girl in 2009. He is accused of possessing photographs of her in various states of undress, police said. The girl lived in the neighborhood.
Police said officers began investigating Shipley in May 2011 on suspicion of having child pornography. He allegedly had more than a dozen pornographic images of young girls who appeared between 10 and 13 years old. Many of the photos appeared to have been taken in Shipley's home, according to police.
He was arrested Wednesday and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday on charges including forcible lewd acts on a child under 14, lewd acts on a child under 14, and aggravated sexual assault of a child.
