Fire threatens 170 homes in Sierra Nevada foothills

A wildfire in Placer County has destroyed one home and injured nine firefighters and is threatening 170 more homes, officials said.

The Robbers fire has been burning since Wednesday northwest of Foresthill and has consumed 1,950 acres, fire officials said. It was 20% contained Saturday evening.

The fire was threatening 170 homes, and the area has been evacuated. A total of 1,952 firefighters from  the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and numerous local agencies were fighting the blaze with helicopters, bulldozers and water tenders.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Foresthill High School gym.

The forestry department has set up an information line at (530) 823-4083.
