El Monte accident kills Caltrans worker on 10 Freeway

Caltrans crash
A Caltrans worker on the westbound 10 Freeway near El Monte was killed Tuesday morning after he was struck by a car, officials said.

The accident occurred about 4 a.m. when a car spun out of control and hit an area of the freeway coned off by Caltrans, killing the construction worker, officials said.

Details of the incident are still under investigation, said Ed Jacobs, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

After the accident, three lanes of the westbound freeway were blocked off, leaving one lane open, officials said.

The incident comes days after another accident killed two construction workers on the 405 Freeway in Torrance.
