Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Rio Dell

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon 15 miles from Rio Dell, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:16 p.m. PDT at a depth of 18.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Redway, 16 miles from Petrolia, 34 miles from Eureka and 181 miles from Sacramento.

In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
