Comic Con 'cosplayer' becomes a rising star
As the dust settles from Comic Con 2012, Kit Quinn is gearing up for the rest of convention season, which she says will last until November.
A dedicated cosplayer, 23-year-old Quinn plans to attend about a dozen comic-book-related conventions or events this year in full costume. Cosplay, or costumed play, is when people dress up as their favorite anime, comic book, movie or video game character, typically at special-interest conventions.
Over the last few years, Quinn, who doesn’t go by her real name, has become a minor celebrity in the cosplay world. Strangers will stop her because they recognize her from photos on the Internet. She’s also been approached by four production companies to star in a reality TV show, she said.
At the Anime Expo earlier this month, Quinn dressed up as Sailor Mars. With her red-and-white schoolgirl uniform, elbow-length gloves and red pumps, she was a near-perfect doppelganger.
"She's definitely one of the best," Jon Racasa, a cosplay photographer, said of Quinn. "You always want to stop and take her photo."
