Child critically injured in traffic accident on 101 Freeway

A child was critically injured and three adults suffered minor injuries in a traffic accident Saturday on the 101 Freeway in Encino, authorities said.

Witnesses reported the crash about 2:45 p.m. and said that four vehicles were involved, including a white Toyota 4Runner that overturned on an eastbound lane just west of Haskell Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Tatiana Sauquillo said.

The child, whose age and gender were not given, may have suffered a “severe arm injury” and was transported to a nearby hospital, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The names of the victims were not given.

Six lanes, including two on the westbound side of the freeway, were closed for about an hour, Sauquillo said.
