Canoga Park man shot by police responding to roommate dispute

Approximate location of incident in black.

A man was shot early Thursday morning by Los Angeles police officers responding to a dispute between roommates in Canoga Park, authorities said.

When officers arrived at the home in the 19300 block of Welby Way about 4:20 a.m., the roommate who called 911 told police another roommate was inside a bedroom and had a gun, LAPD officer Bruce Borihanh said.

The officers went inside to talk to the man, Borihanh said, and when they got inside the room, "the suspect reached for a gun," prompting police to fire.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Borihanh said. The man was reported to be in stable condition.

No officers were hurt, Borihanh said. Details about the incident were still developing, he added, as the investigation was in "really early stages."
