Bicyclist killed in Santa Monica Mountains

A bicyclist was killed Saturday when he apparently veered off the road and fell down a ravine in the Santa Monica Mountains, authorities said.

The victim, described as a black male approximately 40 years of age, was alone when the accident occurred about 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of Stunt Road and Mulholland Highway near Calabasas, said a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
