14-year-old struck and killed by Metrolink train in Covina

Authorities on Thursday identified a 14-year-old boy fatally struck by a Metrolink train in Covina.

Mitchal Sata of Glendora was struck about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Glendora Avenue crossing on the Metrolink line from Los Angeles’ Union Station to San Bernardino, said officials with the L.A. County coroner's office.

Metrolink's Scott Johnson said the train was carrying about 400 passengers and was traveling about 50 mph when the boy was hit. No passengers were injured, he said. There were delays of about two hours.

It was not clear why the teenager was on the tracks. An investigation was ongoing.
