Sylmar mother dies after being crushed by her own car in driveway

Approximate location of incident shown in black.

A Sylmar woman crushed in her driveway by her own car died Sunday at a hospital, LAPD traffic officials said Monday.

The accident occurred Thursday as Yeimi Perez, 27, was unloading items from the car in the driveway, said Det. Bill Bustos of the Los Angeles Police Department.

She was carrying her 3-month-old baby when the car began moving and she got pinned between the wall of her house and the car in the 13300 block of Herron Street. The car crushed the woman, causing what Bustos called “significant injuries.”

He said the child was not hurt.

“At this point we don’t believe there was foul play, but we’re looking at all possibilities,” Bustos said. “We’re still trying to piece it together.”

The L.A. County coroner’s office confirmed Perez died in the hospital about 3:20 p.m. Sunday.
