Two lanes of northbound 5 Freeway reopen

The two right lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway, closed hours before because of a brush fire near Castaic, reopened Friday night.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said that the lanes opened at 8:37 p.m. and that the remaining two lanes could be reopened as early as 1 a.m.

Although the fire has grown to 650 acres, firefighters have it about 35% contained, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Tony Imbrenda.

“It’s laid down quite a bit,” he said.

The fire is not threatening any homes or structures, and southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway have remained open.
