Soldier from San Diego killed in Afghanistan
A U.S. Army soldier from San Diego has been killed in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Sunday.
Sgt. Nicholas Fredsti, 30, was killed Friday in the Spedar region of eastern Afghanistan when his unit was attacked with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, from Fort Bragg, N.C.
Fredsti had also served a tour in Iraq.
