In tribute: An American flag is hoisted between two fire engine ladders during a funeral service for a deceased firefighter in Cypress Park on June 1.
"The street was blocked off and there was an elaborate ceremony: About 100-plus firemen stood at attention outside the Divine Savior Catholic Church while friends and relatives attended funeral services inside. There was a bagpipe procession and a color guard, and three LAFD helicopters flew overhead during the procession," said photographer Philip Halperin.
