Pit bull that killed baby in Lemon Grove is put to death

June 19, 2012 |  4:19 pm

The male pit bull terrier that fatally mauled an 8-month-old boy in Lemon Grove last week has been euthanized, officials said Tuesday.

Two other pit bulls seized from the home have been returned to the owner after investigators determined that they were not involved in the attack on Tyzhel Latella McWilliams. The two dogs were penned up at the time.

The three dogs were kept at the home where the baby lived with his mother and the mother's roommate.

The death is being investigated by homicide detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. When the investigation is complete, a report will be forwarded to the district attorney's office to determine if any criminal charges should be filed.

The dogs were taken from the home by animal-control officers from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility, which has a contract with Lemon Grove.
