Filipinos in Los Angeles are preparing to welcome President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines on Friday evening to Southern California.

Aquino, the son of the Philippines' first woman president, Corazon Aquino, took office in 2010. He came to the United States this week to visit with President Obama and several U.S. companies, hoping to build more economic partnerships between the Philippines and the United States.

He is expected to be welcomed by more than 1,000 Filipinos at the LAX Hilton International Ballroom at 5 p.m.
