Crash closes PCH in Santa Monica; traffic on the 10 diverted

Map shows area affected by vehicle crash on PCH in Santa Monica.
A multi-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday night forced officials to shut down Pacific Coast Highway in both directions in Santa Monica and divert westbound traffic on the 10 Freeway.

The accident was reported around 7:30 p.m. near PCH and the California incline, the Santa Monica Police Department said.

The accident backed up traffic in both directions on Coast Highway and forced officials to shut down the final westbound section of the 10 Freeway and divert traffic along 4th Street in Santa Monica, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities did not know when the roads would reopen. There were no immediate details on whether any people were injured in the crash.
