Suspect identified in L.A. street gun battle that left two dead

A man arrested on suspicion of killing two others in a daytime shooting on a Mid-City street was identified by police Thursday as 18-year-old Alberto Mejia.

He was arrested Wednesday at a residence near 6th Avenue and 15th Street hours after the noontime shooting, police said.

Mejia is suspected of gunning down Miguel Martinez, 19, and Daniel Regalado, 18, both of whom died at a hospital, police said. The victims were described by police as bystanders.

Police said the shootings appear to be the result of a running gun battle between gang members, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call homicide detectives at (213) 382-9470.
