Four members of a Modesto family are dead and two more injured after a Father’s Day crash near Bakersfield, California Highway Patrol officials said Monday.

Driver Jose Castillo and passenger Marcos Castillo suffered “moderate injuries,” a CHP statement said, while four other family members were killed. Their names had not been released yet, but their ages ranged from 11 to 65.

The six family members were in a car Sunday about 3 p.m. when a left rear tire tread separated from the vehicle on Highway 99, north of Pond Road. Castillo lost control, ran off the road and overturned on a dirt shoulder, the CHP said. One person was ejected from the vehicle.

The family was traveling from Northridge to Modesto at the time, the CHP said.
