Ex-treasurer of Ojai youth football league stole funds, police say

The former treasurer of the Ojai youth football league was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of embezzling as much as $49,000, Ventura County sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff’s investigators alleged that Amber Workman, 42, of Ojai, stole the money between January 2007 and December 2009. The funds were discovered missing in 2010 when state authorities notified the youth organization that its nonprofit status was being suspended for failure to file tax returns from 2007 to 2009, sheriff’s officials said.

Workman served as the organization’s treasurer from 2007 to 2010 and had access to its checking account, investigators said. Workman allegedly obtained a debit card for the account and withdrew money for personal use, according to Ventura County Sheriff's Det. Michael Harris.
