Father shoots man breaking into daughter's bedroom, police say

A Stockton man  shot a burglar in the face early Sunday morning as the suspect tried to enter his 2-year-old daughter's bedroom, police say.

Alex Hernandez heard noise outside her bedroom, grabbed a gun and waited, police said. The intruder allegedly tried to climb through the window when Hernandez says he fired.

Stockton police arrested 23-year-old Yobenrico Well a short time later.

Police claim Well admitted to trying to break in, and successfully breaking in a few hours earlier.

When Hernandez and his family were gone Saturday afternoon, Well, whose sister lives across the street from Hernandez, broke into the home through the same window he tried to get into early Sunday morning.

Once inside, Hernandez said, the man made himself at home, eating their food, drinking their liquor, playing video games and even changing their computers screen saver to a picture of a bunch of cheerleaders.

Well is at San Joaquin General Hospital critical condition.
