Dead baby found inside bag on side of road in Northern California

The body of a baby was found on the side of a road in Placer County, officials said.

The body was reported Thursday afternoon by a woman to a Placer County Sheriff's Department deputy. The woman said she found a bag and that it had a "foul-smelling odor,” authorities said. The deputy checked the bag and found the body of an infant, they said.

Deputies are canvassing neighborhoods nearby the undeveloped Green Hills Estates off Newcastle Road, where the body was found, according to Fox 40 Sacramento.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Placer County Sheriff's Department at (530) 889-7800.
