[Updated: 2:27 p.m.] Daytime Emmy Awards to go on despite apparent murder-suicide at hotel

The 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards will go on as scheduled Saturday evening at the Beverly Hilton despite an apparent murder-suicide that occurred Friday night at the luxury hotel.

The event, which will be broadcast live by the HLN cable news channel, honors the best in soap operas and talk shows. It is set to begin at 5 p.m. PDT.

Late Friday evening,  a 70-year-old man and a woman, 56, were found shot to death on the hotel grounds in what Beverly Hills police described as a murder-suicide.

Lt. Mark Rosen, a department spokesman, said the shooting was reported about 10:50 p.m.

Coroner's officials said the names of both people will be released after their relatives are notified. In a statement, police said they were continuing their investigation Saturday, but that the deaths had "no known connection" to the awards ceremony.
