Barricaded suspect in Carson shot at deputies, officials say [Updated]
A Carson man who shot a family member and then barricaded himself Saturday inside the town home he shares with his parents fired shots at responding authorities, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies responded to the initial shooting in the 40 block of Camelback Avenue South at 12:50 p.m., Sgt. Pauline Panis said. The residence is located in Scottsdale Estates, a complex of 600 town homes.
The incident began as a domestic dispute between the suspect and his parents, one of whom was grazed by a bullet and suffered a non-life-threatening wound, Sgt. Joe Ramos said.
A special weapons team was later dispatched and residents were evacuated, Ramos said.
The suspect, who remains in the residence alone eight hours into the standoff, has resisted verbal orders and shot multiple times at authorities, the Sheriff’s Department said. No injuries have been reported from those shots.
[Updated at 10:15 p.m.: The standoff ended about 9:30 p.m. when the suspect was taken into custody, Lt. Chris Bergner said. He was transported to a nearby hospital to be "medically cleared," Bergner said.]
