Officials at Palmdale’s sheriff’s station are seeking to return a safe to its rightful owner, authorities said Friday.

The safe, which authorities suspect was stolen, was found June 13 near the intersection of 45th Street West and Avenue N-8 in Palmdale, officials said. The area is somewhat isolated and rural.

According to information released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, detectives believe the safe was “possibly taken in some sort of crime.” The dial on the safe has been removed and inside are miscellaneous pieces of paper, authorities said. However, there was nothing found inside the safe that would help identify the owner.

Anyone who may have been a victim of a theft or had a safe stolen is requested to contact the Palmdale sheriff's station at (661) 272-2400. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
