Big-rig accident on 405 Freeway in Carson blocking traffic

A big-rig accident on the 405 Freeway on Friday morning was causing a severe traffic backup through Carson, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 5:18 a.m. in northbound lanes near South Alameda Street, said Officer Monica Posada of the California Highway Patrol.

The big rig was on its side and blocking two lanes. Those two lanes remained closed as fuel clean-up was underway and were expected to reopen about 7:30 a.m., Posada said.

Posada said it was it was unclear what caused the accident.
