13-year-old boy killed by suspected drunk driver in Hacienda Heights

This post has been corrected. See the note below for details.

A suspected drunk driver struck a disabled car on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights early Sunday, killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring a woman and a 10-year-old boy.

The older boy and a 41-year-old woman were standing outside the Toyota Corolla on freeway's right shoulder when a Honda Civic traveling about 60 mph drifted onto the shoulder and crashed into the disabled vehicle about 12:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

The boy died at the scene, the CHP said. The woman suffered major injuries and the other boy, who was sitting in the back seat of the disabled car, had moderate injuries, officials said.

All three are residents of Santa Monica but their relationship was not immediately clear.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Tina Silva of Hacienda Heights, exited the freeway at the 7th Street exit and was later contacted by authorities, the CHP said. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

[For the Record, 10:41 a.m. June 5 : A previous version of this post stated that the 13-year-old victim was a girl. The victim was later identified as a boy, 13-year-old Max Petrakos, of Santa Monica.]
