Crews work to fix water main breaks in Silver Lake, South L.A.
Repair crews were working to fix two water main breaks Friday morning, one in South Los Angeles and the other in Silver Lake.
In South L.A., an 88-year-old, eight-inch-wide cast-iron water main broke near the corner of West 59th Street and Bonsallo Avenue. It was not clear when it broke or what time the water was shut off, said Terry Schneider of the Department of Water and Power.
Fifty to 75 customers were without water Friday morning, and the intersection was closed as crews worked to repair the leak, Schneider said. There was no damage to sidewalks or homes.
In Silver Lake, another eight-inch-wide cast-iron water main broke at 2422 Entrance Dr. at about 3:44 a.m.
About 12 customers were without water, and one business experienced some water damage, Schneider said.
