Teen skateboarder in Livermore dies after crashing into pickup

May 9, 2012 |  8:13 am

A 13-year-old skateboarder in Northern California died after crashing into a moving pickup truck, police said Wednesday.

The boy “had some speed” as he rode down a hill Tuesday, but there was no indication the truck was traveling over the speed limit, said Sgt. John Hurd of the Livermore Police Department.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a role, and the boy was wearing a helmet, he said.

Authorities said the boy, whose name was not released, was riding down Kara Place about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and turning onto Lomitas Avenue when he collided with the truck, which was carrying a trailer.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
