San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders is calling on the public to vote for Chula Vista's Jessica Sanchez on Wednesday night's episode of "American Idol," which is down to the final four contestants.

"Even Bonnie Dumanis, Nathan Fletcher and the two other mayoral candidates whose names I can't remember would agree on this much: Jessica Sanchez is far and away the best performer on this season's 'American Idol,' '' Sanders said in a written statement.

For the record, the two candidates Sanders "can't remember" are Councilman Carl DeMaio and Rep. Bob Filner (D-San Diego).
