Public memorial planned for football great Junior Seau
This post has been updated. Please see the note at the bottom for details.
The San Diego Chargers will host a Celebration of Life in former football star Junior Seau's honor Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The parking lot will open at 2 p.m. and the stadium gates at 4:30 p.m. A large crowd is expected.
Seau, 43, an All-American at USC and a star during 20 years in the NFL, was found dead May 2 in his home in Oceanside. The San Diego County medical examiner confirmed he died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest. No suicide note was found.
Other services for the football great and civic benefactor will be private.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Oceanside, and a memorial service will take place Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by burial from 1 to 2 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
[Updated at 12:50 p.m., May 9: A previous version of this post said the viewing, memorial and burial would be open to the public, and gave additional details about the services, but the family now says those services will be private.]
