Small plane sinks in San Diego Bay, both men aboard escape

May 26, 2012 |  5:54 pm

A small plane towing an advertising banner for the carrier museum Midway landed Saturday afternoon in the San Diego Bay and promptly sank, but both men aboard were able to escape without injury, according to the Coast Guard.

The Cessna-150 landed in the water near the Coronado Bay Bridge and stayed afloat for about 20 seconds, long enough for the pilot and a passenger to escape. A civilian boater plucked them from the water. Moments later they were taken aboard a 45-foot Coast Guard craft.

Neither man required hospitalization.
