May 12, 2012 |  7:23 pm

A 52-year-old North Carolina woman was killed Saturday in a paragliding accident in the Torrey Pines area of San Diego, officials said.

Pamela Hargett was paragliding over Black's Beach when, "for unknown reasons, she lost control and crashed into the side of the cliff," according to the San Diego County medical examiner. Her boyfriend, who also was paragliding, called 911.

Hargett was airlifted to a hospital in La Jolla, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending.

The city-owned Torrey Pines Gliderport is one of the nation's major venues for hang gliding and paragliding.
