House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will join the likes of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. after a San Francisco street is named in her honor

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will join the likes of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday afternoon after a San Francisco street is named in her honor.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee will rename Middle Drive East "Nancy Pelosi Drive" in honor of the representative's 25 years serving California's 8th District, according to the mayor's office. Pelosi, a prominent leader in the Democratic Party, served as speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011.

Both Pelosi and Lee are expected to speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony marking the name change.

Pelosi's native Baltimore named Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi Street in her honor shortly after she became the first female House speaker. Pelosi's family has strong political ties in the city: Her father, Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., was a longtime mayor and congressman, and one of her brothers also served as Baltimore's mayor.
