Inmate dies at Lancaster state prison

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives were dispatched to the state prison in Lancaster early Tuesday to help investigate an inmate's death.

The inmate, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which occurred at 12:45 a.m. at California State Prison, Los Angeles County, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

Prison officials also are investigating. No other details were available.
