Bomb threat on Southwest flight at John Wayne Airport

May 8, 2012 |  9:50 pm

Authorities Tuesday night detained a Southwest Airlines plane at John Wayne Airport after receiving a bomb threat.

The plane was taken to an isolated area, and a bomb squad prepared to search the aircraft, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

The incident began after a "phone threat was received by an outside agency," said Lt. Joe Balicki of the Sheriff's Department.

The incident was reported about 8:30 p.m. No additional details were immediately available.
