Arrest made in shooting of Stockton ice cream truck driver

May 14, 2012 |  8:28 am

Police in Stockton have arrested a man suspected of shooting an ice cream truck driver in what may have been an attempted robbery.

Jesus Marez, 23, was arrested by Stockton police in the attempted murder of Muhammed Rafique in March. Marez was booked Saturday into the San Joaquin County Jail.

Rafique was shot in the shoulder and throat and is now out of the hospital and recovering.

The 35-year-old ice cream truck driver was said to be aware of the dangers of his job and had installed a metal grid on the driver’s side window of his truck to deter would-be robbers, police said.
