6-year-old girl drowns in pool during Memorial Day party

Drown

Authorities are investigating the death of a 6-year-old La Cañada Flintridge girl who drowned in her family's pool during a Memorial Day block party.

Deputies were called to a house in the 4900 block of Indianola Way around 9 p.m. Monday night.

KTLA reported that a Memorial Day block party had been taking place in front of the house. The victim and a 5-year-old friend went inside the house to get cake. Some time later, the 5-year-old came back outside, soaking wet. The parents and 14-year-old brother of the 6-year-old girl then found her floating in the backyard pool.

The girl was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, there was a fence around the pool, but it had been damaged.
