5 Freeway near San Onofre closed after pursuit ends [Updated]
The California Highway Patrol has closed the 5 Freeway in both directions near the San Onofre nuclear power plant following a pursuit.
The freeway was closed in both directions about 7:20 p.m. after a police chase that ended in front of a weigh station scales, according to a CHP dispatcher.
[Updated, 8:41 p.m.: The northbound lanes have reopened, but the southbound lanes remain closed, the CHP said.]
The highway patrol had a suspect in custody, and as of 7:55 p.m. planned to reopen the freeway soon, the dispatcher said.
The closure affected the section of the freeway near the Orange and San Diego county border.
