Woman found dead in Malibu garage; car missing

April 30, 2012 |  7:08 am

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on Monday were investigating  the death of a woman whose body was found in the garage of her parents' home in Malibu.

The body of Katie Wilkins, 25, was found Saturday by her brother in the 23400 block of Moon Shadows Drive, a small cul-de-sac near Saddle Peak. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics; her cause of death was under investigation.

Wilkins' car, a silver BMW with the license plate 4AMN558, was missing, KTLA-TV reported. In an interview with the station, her brother Steve speculated that perhaps she had been with another person who fled the scene.

"It looks like someone was there with her, and maybe is scared or doesn't know how to come forward," he said.

Wilkins was staying at her parents' home while they were away on a business trip. The last time anyone talked to her was Friday morning; her brother stopped by Saturday evening.

"The first thing I saw was her in the garage, and she had passed away," he recalled.

Emergency officials at the scene reported suspicious circumstances. The dog had gotten out of the house, and Wilkins had prepared food and started a load of laundry.

Her family wants to know who was with her.

"We're not angry. We're not upset with anyone who might have been with her," Steve Wilkins said. "We just want them to come forward and help bring some closure to Katie. She was loved by a lot of people."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
