Truck sought in suspected street race that killed 1, injured 2

Police were searching Friday for a truck that may have been involved in an apparent street race in Westminster that left a young woman dead and two men seriously injured.

The Westminster Police Department is investigating the crash, which occurred around 5 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Hoover Street and Hazard Avenue after two cars collided.

Jessica Dayoan, 18, died at the scene. She was a passenger in a red Toyota compact car driven by her 19-year-old brother, Jorel.

The Toyota appeared to have been racing a vehicle described by witnesses as a gray Dodge pickup truck with big wheels when it drifted into an oncoming gray Honda Accord, said Sgt. Alan Iwashita.

Iwashita said that if investigators determine the crash was caused by a street race, the drivers could face criminal charges.
