A rally to mark the two-month anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death is planned Thursday evening at a  South Los Angeles church.

The family of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed Florida teenager killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer, is expected to attend the event.

Also attending is the family of Kendrec McDade, a 19-year-old college student who was unarmed when he was shot and killed in March by two Pasadena police officers. The Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson also are scheduled to attend.

The rally will be held at 5:30 p.m. at West Los Angeles Church in Christ at 3045 Crenshaw Blvd.

The event is intended to bring attention to the killings and to discuss racial profiling, organizers said.

“To tell them, this is the way, unfortunately, you have to handle yourself and live to tell about it,” he said. “Don’t become that victim."

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Martin, was arrested April 11 on second-degree murder charges. He was released from a Florida jail on a $150,000 bond about midnight Sunday.

For the record, 9:07 p.m. April 26: An earlier version of this post referred to the location of the rally as the West Los Angeles Church in Christ. It is the West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
