Soldier from Northern California dies in Afghanistan

A U.S. Army soldier from West Sacramento has died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Spec. Manuel Vasquez, 22, died Tuesday in Paktika province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade, from Grafenwoehr, Germany.

No details about the death were released.
