1 man killed, 2 others injured in shootings, stabbing in Santa Ana

April 27, 2012 |  8:34 pm

Authorities in Santa Ana on Friday were grappling with a pair of shootings that left one juvenile in critical condition and a man dead. Another man was stabbed in a third incident, police said.

The incidents took place near Santa Ana High School and Willard Intermediate School. Authorities say they are unrelated.

The first incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. in the 900 block of West Walnut Street, near Santa Ana High School. A juvenile was walking in an alley when he was shot in the stomach by a gunman, according to Santa Ana Police Sgt. Carol Salvatierra. The victim was listed in serious condition, she said, adding that the age of the juvenile was not known.

About 15 minutes later and a little more than a mile away, Santa Ana police received a call about a stabbing in the 400 block of West Halesworth Street, not far from Willard Intermediate School.

Salvatierra said a man was involved in a fight with his roommates and was stabbed by one of them. The man was hospitalized, she said, but was expected to survive.

She said the man who stabbed the victim fled in an SUV but a description of the vehicle and the assailant were not available. No one has been arrested, she said.

The second shooting occurred about 4:35 p.m. near 10th Street and Riverine Avenue -- around the corner from the stabbing. Salvatierra said someone heard gunshots and  looked out a window to see a man inside a car who appeared to have been shot.

When officers arrived, she said, they found the man inside the car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call (714) 245-8701.
