San Diego firefighters plead not guilty to off-duty brawl charges

April 21, 2012 |  9:52 am

Three San Diego firefighters pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of robbery, assault and witness tampering stemming from a late-night, off-duty brawl outside the Ould Sod Bar in the Normal Heights neighborhood.

Charged were Capt. Vadid Cisneros, 36; Gregory Econie, 26; and Andrew Brennan, 29.

Superior Court Judge David Szumowski allowed the three to remain free pending trial. All remain on duty.

The incident began near midnight Feb. 26 when the firefighters  got into a scuffle with a man after one of the firefighters made a derogatory remark, according to prosecutors. Minutes later, the man and his brother -- both in their mid-40s -- confronted the firefighters and a second fight ensued.

One of the brothers reported being hit in the head with a rock. The firefighters allegedly took wallets from the two, and Brennan allegedly warned the two not to report the incident to police.
