Michael Calvert, 25, was arrested by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies around 8:15 p.m. Thursday after the homeowner returned to his residence on 29 Palms Highway, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.

The homeowner reported hearing someone in the bathroom with the door closed, Bachman said.

Sgt. Jason Radeleff of the Morongo Basin sheriff's station said an investigation revealed the burglar "helped himself to some food, downed a bottle of champagne and then took a shower."

"He made a statement that he entered the house because his feet were hurting him," Radeleff said.

Calvert was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of residential burglary, Bachman said. He is being held on $25,000 bail, authorities said.
